There seems to be a rumour floating around that by soaking chia seeds in water overnight, and then drinking said water in the morning, it will help you lose weight. I’ll get into more detail on this in a bit…but first I thought I’d level up your nutrition game today by giving you some knowledge on this small, yet so nutritious little seed!
Did you know that chia seeds are an excellent source of magnesium, zinc, iron, and calcium!
In just 2 tablespoons, you can meet 40% of your daily fibre intake and get almost 5 grams of protein!
Chia seeds are also an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are those heart healthy fats that help us increase our good cholesterol (HDL). They help PROTECT us from heart disease (yay!).
Some of the amazing ways that I like to incorporate chia seeds is by making chia pudding, adding them to overnight oats, yogurt, salads, smoothies, jam, energy balls, and even in popsicles! They don’t really alter the taste of anything, but give you so much added nutrition in your diet.
….but the question remains…will they help you lose weight?
The short answer is no. There is no research to suggest that by eating soaked chia seeds you will magically start shedding weight. It just doesn’t happen. Weight loss comes from a collective effort of being mindful of ALL the foods you are consuming and also your lifestyle! There are no magic foods… but learning about how to eat is definitely the first step towards becoming the best version of yourself!
