Top 10 Weight Loss Tips from a Registered Dietitian

Are you tired of yo-yo dieting in hopes of loosing weight? If you said yes, you are not alone! Diets are not sustainable because they are restrictive. Who really wants to live a life where you can’t enjoy the foods you love? You want the flexibility and understanding on how you can lose weight and keep it off FOREVER!

As a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Coach, I have helped hundreds of people ditch dieting and learn how to nourish their bodies in a way that supports their weight loss goals.

Here are my top 10 tips:

1. Eat breakfast.

Breakfast is the MOST IMPORTANT meal of your day! It helps to boost your metabolism, keeps you fuelled and keeps your hunger in check for the rest of the day.

2. Incorporate movement you enjoy.

Exercise shouldn’t be a punishment. Instead of running on the treadmill because you need to burn the 200 calorie cookie you just ate, think about all the positive feels you get because you moved your body. If you want sustainable results, find a movement activity that you actually enjoy doing, and know it has nothing to do with calories burned or what foods you are eating.

3. Swap dinnerware with your kids.

We are very visual people. Eating off of a bigger plate can result in us eating beyond our level of “satisfaction”. With a smaller plate in mind, we are able to assess hunger and fullness a little better!

4. Eat every 3-4 hours.

When you start having balanced meals, you can expect to be hungry every 3-4 hours. Hunger is your body’s way of telling you to fuel up. Your body is looking for energy. This feeds into having a better metabolism and your body learning to trust you better!

5. Aim for ½ plate of veggies.

Veggies provide us with TONS of vitamins and nutrients, including fibre! Aiming for 1/2 a plate will help balance out your meals so that you can have lasting energy throughout the day!

6. Ditch the diet mentality!

Diets are restricting and create feelings of guilt and regret. Over time you start to have a negative relationship with foods, where you get caught in a restart-binge cycle. Start to enjoy foods – ALL FOODS. No cheat days, intermittent fasting, keto, avoiding carbs, or thinking fruits are the devil. How would it feel if you could go to a party, and feel excited to try the desserts, and not feeling guilty about it afterwards?

7. Enjoy snacking!

Snacking is an opportunity for you to fuel your body, so its ok to be excited for your next snack!

8. Drink enough water.

Sometimes our body will confuse thirst with hunger. Making sure you are drinking enough water throughout the day can help with food cravings.

9. Watch the mixed drinks and alcohol intake.

Alcoholic drinks and mixed drinks need to be accounted for when we are talking about weight loss. I recommend having a glass of water in-between each drink to help with your consumption.

10. Have protein with each main meal.

Protein helps to keep you satiated between meals. It’s a key factor to having better energy levels and balancing those blood sugars. I love to teach my clients about how to incorporate proteins that are closer to the ground, closer to nature so that they are truly benefitting from what Mother Earth has to offer.

I know you are tired of googling and researching. I built my program ‘Surviving To Thriving‘ for you! The mom who wants to have energy when she comes home from work to play with her kids. The person who is tired of finishing an entire bag of chips while watching Netflix. I focus on teaching you how you can enjoy ALL foods, without guilt. I focus on helping you understand how to nourish your body, so that you are able to have energy that lasts the day. This program is a lifestyle change. With this program, you’ll have the foundational knowledge on how to lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life! Wouldn’t that be a relief worth getting started for?

Sound too good to be true? Its not!
